Climb the Dome of St Peter's Basilica

For an epic view from the very top of St Peter’s Basilica, you can climb right up to the top of the dome.

You can either walk the whole way up, or get the lift part of the way. Inside the dome, you get amazing views of the mosacis up close. By the end, you’re climbing a very narrow staircase that follows the curve of the dome to the very top. It’s pretty tight - but a cool experience and the views are a fab reward.

A quick caution though - if you don’t like heights, then this is not for you! Instead you might want to consider a tour of the necropolis, which is beneath the ground - you can request a visit here. If you don't like tight spaces and can easily feel claustrophic, then probably avoid both and stick to admiring the Basilica's interior, which so vast you definitely won't mind hanging out in there!

Make sure you arrive well in time for your timed entry ticket, as all visitors to the Basilica have to go through security checks, which means there can be long queues at times.
