How Long Do You Need on Your Passport To Travel?

How long you need on your UK passport to travel depends on where you’re going.

Some countries just ask that your passport is valid until the day you leave. Some countries want your passport to be valid for 3 months, and others require you to have at least 6 months left on it.

If that sounds a bit confusing, then don’t worry as there’s a super simple way to find out what you need.

How do I check how many months I need on my passport to travel to a country?

The UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has a really handy website for everything you need to know about the country you’re travelling to.

You simply need to head to their travel advice page and find the country you’re after.

For passport validity questions, you’ll want to click on the ‘entry requirements’ link at the top of the page.

You can also find other helpful information there about things like visas, vaccinations, security and more.

How many months do you need left on your passport to visit these popular travel destinations?

Here are some of the most popular travel destinations for Brits, and how long they require you to have left on your passport.

If the country you’re going to isn’t listed, it doesn’t mean the timeframes don’t apply. Check the FCDO website to make sure.
