I recently had my first experience of sleeping in a Bangkok Airport pod hotel, down in the basement of Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. Read on for my review and whether I would use an airport pod hotel on my next trip.

What is the Bangkok Airport pod hotel?
A pod hotel is an affordable style of hotel that’s made up of pods that you spend the night in.
The pods are basically capsule-type containers that fit a bed – and that’s it! So they are super-compact which makes them cheaper than a whole hotel room.
There are actually a few different pod hotel options in the basement of Bangkok Airport. However, on this occasion , we chose to stay at Avagard Capsule Hotel which is known for its space like individual pods!
Why did I book the Bangkok Airport pod hotel?
I’ve seen these pod hotels at various airports during my travels, and I’ve always wanted to try them out. I usually find pods are a great value option for accommodation – I once stayed in a pod hotel in Copenhagen city centre for £37.
On a trip to Thailand in early 2025, James and I had a layover at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhunmi Airport before catching our flight home, so I knew it was the perfect opportunity to test out the Bangkok Airport pod hotel.
How did I check in to the Bangkok Airport pod hotel?
There was a member of staff there to check us in to the pod hotel. You get a locker to put all your stuff in (it’s huge and easily fitted my suitcase and backpack) and flip flops are provided.
You choose your own passcode which works for the locker and your pod.

I was actually really surprised at how deep the lockers were! We could easily fit in a cabin sized suitcase and a big backpack, though if you had a huge suitcase it may not fit inside.
What is the Bangkok Airport pod hotel like?
The pod is decent, let me say that straight up!
I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the bed. I am pretty sure it was a queen size, so like a small double – although the pods are strictly for one.
You get two pillows plus a complimentary bottle of water, packet of tissues and ear plugs.

There’s some cool spacey lighting, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it definitely helps you lean in to the whole futuristic pod vibe.
They have signs around the pods warning people to be quiet, which is helpful. It’s also very quiet in the basement during nighttime – although I’m not sure what it would be like if you slept here during the day. The air con in the pod does create some background noise, so if you’re a light sleeper then the ear plugs could be helpful for that.
What are the facilities at Bangkok Airport pod hotel?
The facilities at the Bangkok Airport pod hotel itself are pretty minimal, as you might expect. There are toilets nearby for you to use, and that’s it.
As for what’s inside the pod, you’ve got…
- 2 USB charging points
- A dimmable reading light
- A foldaway tray table – useful if you want to eat or work in your pod
- Controls for the fan, air con and lighting
- A coat hook
- A chain lock – helps you feel nice and secure

Obviously you have all the airport facilities at your disposal – we had a delicious meal at one of the restaurants here. There are also 24-hour massage parlours – and James and I treated ourselves to one of these!
Sadly, there are no showers to use, but because I have lounge access with my credit card, we were able to use the showers in the Miracle lounge after security.
There are a couple of lounges you can pay to use for a few hours where there’s a shower and you can freshen up.
Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport lounges with showers
Miracle Lounge – from £35 for 3 hours
Coral Executive Lounge – from £42 for 2.5 hours
How much does it cost to stay at the Bangkok Airport Pod hotel?
It cost us £41 per person per night to stay at the Avagard Capsule Hotel at Bangkok Airport in May, but I have seen it for less – around £34 a night.
You can only sleep one person per pod – I think probably for safety reasons, as they are so small and an enclosed space.
When you stay also impacts the cost, as you can actually score one of these for around £19 if you stay during the daytime (10am-5pm). I think that’s really good value if you find yourself needing to catch up on sleep here during the day!
My final thoughts on the Bangkok Pod Hotel
Now, as far as my overnight stay goes, I think the Bangkok Pod Hotel is actually expensive for what you get.
But – you’re paying for convenience, so it may be worth it if you have an early flight and are anxious about waking up on time AND having to travel to the airport.
It’s also not a terrible option for solo travellers, since you’re paying per person rather than for an entire room.

It helps if you have lounge access to be able to shower, as there are no general airport showers here (we used the Miracle lounge).
Alternatives for the Bangkok Airport Avagard Capsule Hotel
If you don’t have lounge access and you’re travelling as a pair, then it may be worth just paying to stay at a hotel at the airport, like the Hyatt Regency, where a room would have cost us £104. And they offer free airport transfers!
Otherwise, you’ll find much cheaper hotel rooms close to the airport from as little as £16 per night, then you can get a cheap Grab or Bolt taxi to the airport.
